On one sickly evening, I stumbled upon the new Dr. SEUSS'S THE LORAX on Netflix. Having read the book to many groups of children attempting to teach sustainability, I was curious to see how Hollywood approached creating a movie to a beloved book. Here is a quick opinion:

Many of the core quotes and ideas of sustainability were lost in musical numbers, slapstick comedy bits and the storyline surrounding the fact that the only reason the boy is talking to the Once-ler to find out about the Truffula Trees, is to impress an older girl.

The Once-ler character is made out to be a good guy in the movie as well. He is given a face  and is holly-go-lightly throughout the entire movie.  He didn't mean to cut down the Truffula Trees, it just happened, and the Lorax was more a friend to him then a foe.

In the end, the movie uses the book as a baseline and created something else out of it, which is totally fine but at the same time, Hollywood still could have stuck with the core ideas that makes the book, The Lorax, so special and maybe have added cryptic messages about living sustainably. That is what I would have done at least...

Blog that I found after I wrote this entry, happens to explain many of my ideas further, (They also produced this image):
